Welcome to Trendy Hounds! My name is Kathleen & I’m the sole owner/collar maker of Trendy Hounds martingale collars and leashes. I live in South Carolina, USA, with my husband, 2 sons, a rat terrier mix, a cane corso, and my son’s hunting dog. My love for dogs is my greatest inspiration. Growing up we always had lots of dogs and over the years I’ve had a Pekinese, several rescue dogs, (3) retired racing greyhounds, and a bull mastiff.
After adopting our first retired racing greyhound in 2005, I started hunting for martingale collars to outfit him with. The first few martingale dog collars we purchased didn’t last long and were very expensive. This led to the beginning of Trendy Hounds martingale collars and leashes.
I decided to tear one of the worn-out collars apart & figure out how to make them myself. The first couple of collars I tried making took hours to make. It was a nightmare, but fun at the same time. The only time I had ever used a sewing machine was for straight stitch curtains, so this was definitely a challenge. However, I was determined to figure out a way to make my dog quality martingale collars for a lot less than what I could buy them for online.
I started out making 1.5 inch size “medium†martingale collars for greyhounds only. It wasn’t long before customers were requesting collars in other collar widths and sizes, which led to gradually adding the ¾ inch, 1 inch, and 2 inch width martingale collars in various sizes (x-small, small, medium, large, and x-large) for ALL BREEDS of dogs.
I continually research supplies (hardware, webbing, grosgrain, jacquard ribbon, woven ribbon, etc.) for the best quality and of course the best pricing so I can offer quality martingale collars at affordable prices.
All Trendy Hounds martingale collars are lined with a fuzzy felt lining to help prevent bald spots on the dog’s neck. This fuzzy felt lining sets Trendy Hounds martingale dog collars apart from other collar makers.
CUSTOMER SERVICE--I try to imagine how I would like to be treated if I were the customer. You can’t always please everyone all the time, but I do my best to try. I don’t pre-sew collars because I never know what size or collar width will be needed so I only make collars as they are ordered. I know when someone places an order they can’t wait to see their new collar(s) so I do my best to get orders out as soon as possible. I have a processing (sewing) time to allow myself time to get orders sewn, however as soon as I complete orders they are shipped so you can receive them as soon as possible.
