Get to Know
I make stuff.
For years, I dreamed of being able to give that answer when someone asked me what I did for a living. For years, it was just a dream. And then at the beginning of 2011, I decided to make a Doctor Who bracelet with my new hand stamping tools and add it to my little Etsy shop. A month later, I'd moved my geek-inspired bracelets and rings to their own Etsy shop, and named it Foxwise. By the end of the year, I was so busy I'd hired two assistants to help me get through the holiday rush.
In March of 2012, I received a notice from Etsy stating that I had infringed on a copyright by using the phrase 'Here is the place where I love you' from The Hunger Games. Because this was not my first notice of copyright infringement (I had been notified in the past when Etsy received a complaint about a Battlestar Galactica bracelet, and before that a Glee ring), and despite the fact that each time I was told of the problem I complied immediately and never tried to use the problem phrases again, Etsy decided to close not only my Foxwise shop, but my other seven Etsy shops as well, even though none of the others sold hand-stamped jewelry, nor had any of them ever infringed on a copyright.
So, here I am on ArtFire! Because I sell fun hand-stamped jewelry with phrases taken from pop culture, there is always the chance that I will inadvertently step on copyrighted toes. I hope this won't happen, and that I will be as happy here as I was on Etsy.
