Red and Clear Floral Earrings Made From Upcycled Plastic Containers

Image Description
The latest addition to my Upcycled Magic line, these prettily detailed red and clear earrings carry on one of my favorite techniques. Shrinking food containers to make earrings is a fun and efficient way of reducing our carbon footprint. These red and clear floral patterned dangles are both lightweight on the ear, and stylish with bold color. The 1.5 inch long rectangles were much larger before shrinking and thickening in the oven. At their original size, I used a black and white pattern to trace the design with a bright red sharpie marker. Once shrunken and the ink condensed, I sealed the pigment in with a coat of water based polyurethane gloss. The earrings are trimmed with red glass matching seed beads, and the straight posts are surgical steel that come with secure backings.
