Get to Know
Pandahlia was born out of a need to express my creativity. The imagination and love of beauty that had led me to take art classes, write stories, and major in Music and in English in college were being pushed aside by the practical need to grade papers and prepare lesson plans as a lecturer at Penn State. I needed a creative outlet, and jewelry design came into my life at just the right moment. Named after my two rescue cats, my jewelry business began in 2007 as a fundraising effort for the animal shelter which had saved my two beautiful calicos, and for which I had been volunteering for 5 years. Soon my fellow volunteers were my loyal customers, and I began to lay awake at nights planning out color combinations and envisioning necklace, earring, and bracelet designs. When it came time to choose a name for my business, the meanings of my cats' names were perfect for my philosophy of jewlery design. In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman. Her curiosity opened up a new world, and I want to design with her same spirit of adventure. Dahlia is meaningful in a perhaps more obvious way. I find much of my inspiration in the colors of nature, and dahlias are among the most varied and beautiful flowers to be found. Just as no two dahlias are alike, so are no two women. We are short and tall, thin and full, living our lives single and double. And so, when I create my jewelry, it is for every woman - a celebration of spirit and beauty.
I hope you enjoy wearing my wearable quirks of art as much as I enjoy creating them! - KarenDe
