Hand Quilled Snowflake Ornament, elegant, with Hand Tatted hanger
Winter is here and so are the snowflakes! This non-melting hand quilled one of a kind snowflake makes a unique gift, elegant home decoration or beautiful ornament. Use a couple snowflakes to embellish a gift basket to give it that extra special touch. I can't count the number of gifts over the years that I have made using my snowflakes.
An elderly woman from our church introduced me to quilling, which began my love for the art of paper curling or paper filigree. It basically involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. In times past the paper would be wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. I use either a long hat pin or a specially designed slotted quilling tool. The pin makes a smaller hole in the center of the coil, whereas the quilling tool makes less of a round shape that is not quite so small. It all depends on the effect I want to create. The paper can be rolled as a tight coil, loose coil, maquis, tear drop, S-sroll, C-scroll, or a variation on a heart scroll and then glued into patterns to make up the snowflake, or arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various other patterns. I like to create both two dimensional as well as three dimensional items. My snowflakes are 2D but my miniature potted plants that I make into magnets as well as some of my custom shadow box arrangements, are 3D.
It was during the Renaissance that nuns and monks used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items. The paper usually came from strips of paper trimmed off the gilded edges of books. These gilded paper strips were then rolled to create the quilled shapes. Quilling was also done in the 18th century by upper class ladies and was also practiced in the American Colonial times. Quilling was even mentioned by Jane Austen in her novel "Sense and Sensibility"
These snowflakes can be made in the color of your choice if you prefer something other than light blue. Each also includes an attached hand tatted 100% cotton loop for hanging. Each ornament is unique, just like a real snowflake, so the size of the hanging loop can be adjusted. Just let me know what size you need it to be. A quantity discount can also be given when more than one is ordered. Just contact me and let's discuss it.

I now accept Stripe, PayPal at this time has been giving me grief. I believe Stripe is just as handy as PayPal, and is fast and with few steps involved which is great for all concerned. And, even if you do not want or don't have a Stripe account I believe you can still use it to pay via credit card. If you are having trouble making a payment, please contact me. We should be able to work something out. However, If payment has not been received within 72 hours and you have not contacted me, the item(s) will be re-listed unless other arrangements have been made.
I ship first class within 1-3 business days from receipt of payment, unless it is a custom order. Your purchase will be packed with the utmost of care and I do try to recycle and reuse as much as I can. The item(s) will be shipped via USPS within the United States or to Canada, unless you contact me with your preferred shipping provider.
If you are in another country, and would like to purchase an item, or items, from my shop, contact me, and I will calculate postage for you. If you are willing to pay the postage I calculate, I will add shipping to your country on the item(s) you wish to purchase. Most recently I have shipped to the United Kingdom. The package arrived in nine days, just to give you an idea of timing.
If there is an item you see in my shop that you would like in another color, etc, contact me. I welcome custom orders. If I can make what you want with supplies I have on hand, I will not require a deposit. I will e-mail you pictures of the item(s) when it is done, and will list it if you like it. It will be shipped after you pay.
I love creating new items as well, so feel free to contact me with your request. If I will have to purchase supplies to make what you want, then I will need a deposit for the cost of supplies. Thank you so much, and stop in again soon.
I cannot recommend Wendy and her family highly enough! Wendy's tatted items look beautiful in the photos, but my earrings that came which she custom made to my size requirement are just gorgeous! I will enjoy wearing this lightweight and lovely design over and over, I'm sure. Just exquisite work and quality!
My wooden spatula made by David, Wendy's 13-year-old son, is fantastic! It has a thicker handle than some of my spatulas and that makes it so much easier to hold and grip with my stiff arthritic hand...what a blessing! And the quality is top-notch as well. Obviously is quite committed to providing quality designs, just like his mother.
My many communications with Wendy regarding my order prior to purchase and then throughout purchase and receipt were exceptionally pleasant! It is obvious the Wright Family are interested in taking good care of their customers, as well as providing beautifully crafted items of the highest quality. I could not be happier and hope to order more "stuff" from the Wrights in the future!
Wendy, I LOVE the earrings. Can't wait to wear them. Thanks so much!
This handmade wooden spatula is all that I had hoped for. It's both lovely and functional. The grain is beautiful and the unique labor intensive sanding process makes for a satiny smooth surface. I like the extra touch of the leather hanging loop. I just used it for the first to saute garlic and olive oil and the design fits beautifully in my hand. Thank you for a special product, exceptional customer service, careful packaging and fast shipping.
