Single Frolicking Faerie With Rainbow Moonstone
A carefree, enchanting faerie delights as she soars on this magical piece of fantasy jewelry. The faerie's name is Spirit, although 4 other faeries as well as 1 mermaid are available (see the last photo for the other available sprites -- Brave, Joy, Clarity, Bliss and Tranquil). The linked scrollwork medallions are set with stones which add to the mystical quality of this faerie necklace. The scrollwork of the triangular and oval links are echoed in the wings of the faerie, bringing the entire design together in a truly magical way in this piece of artisans jewelry. The faerie is sculpted three dimensionally so as you move she swings and takes on life of her own.
The overall length of the Frolicking Faerie Necklace is 21 1/2 inches long and can be adjusted to wearable lengths between 15 - 21 inches by attaching the clasp to any link of the chain. This makes the fantasy necklace perfect for a variety of wearing preferences, necklines and body types. The end of the chain is finished with a triangular scrollwork piece which dangles down the back. The length of the faerie is 1 1/2 inches long. Along with the faerie, the scrollwork oval and triangular pieces are all my original design and creation. The ovals are set with 6mm of Rainbow Moonstones, it is a stone of mystery, self-discovery, intuition and insight. If you would like to special order this necklace with stones not listed please contact me.
As with all of my work this piece of fantasy jewelry was created using the lost wax method. I first start by doing a detailed drawing of my intended subject. Then I sculpt my design in wax. I start with overall shape and form, making sure all the individual pieces are proportional to each other, then adding detail such as facial features, fingers, toes, hair and scrollwork wings. After the wax sculpture is complete it is cast in sterling silver, excess metal is removed, rough polished, linked together, soldered, patina applied, stones set, then completed by a final polish. It is a time consuming process, but one that I thoroughly enjoy. For more detailed information on my wax sculpting and casting process go to www.mystcswan.biz and look at the "Creation Process" and "Wax Sculpting" sections. The only purchased parts of this handmade faerie necklace are the chain, jump rings, clasp and stones.
If you love this sterling silver necklace, but are curious about other options, versions are available with 3 and 5 faeries. There are also pendants of the individual faeries with cool scrollwork bails, one with and one without a stone. There are also matching earrings making it a truly stunning fantasy or Renaissance jewelry set. Take a little enchantment with you each day with this beautiful faerie necklace.
The inspiration for my Frolicking Faerie Collection came when browsing through my newest Live Model figure drawing reference book. Since many of my themes use figures based on the human form I've gained quiet a selection of reference books. The most recent one had the models jumping on trampolines, running, flying through the air and even on a trapeze. I couldn't help but think of faeries doing much the same, only with their wings propelling them rather than mechanical devises. I started sketching combining this thought with an element from my "Magic Foretold" maiden and dragon pendant, the scrollwork of the medallion which I use on the oval and triangular linked pieces as well as the faeries wings. Sometimes I design a larger static piece so I can incorporate more background elements, but this time I wanted to keep the movement that I saw in my original source so decided to link the elements together. This opened up other options; being able to use the different faeries and design components in multiple ways. The original design was for a 5 faerie necklace (still my favorite of the collection), but can also assemble it with just 3 or 1 faerie. I can also use the links to make earrings and bracelets. I designed to versions of bails, one with a stone and one without as other options in the collection. If you see a combination of elements that I don't have listed please contact me and I'll let you know if I can make it for you. Also look in the mermaid section of my shop for more pendants and bracelets made in this style.
