Miriam Haskell Jet Black Glass Bead Turtle Clasp Necklace Earrings
Details
Miriam Haskell Jet Black Glass Bead Rare Turtle Clasp Two Strand Necklace and Earrings Demi is a real stunner. The central design of the necklace is that of layers of poured glass and gold flowers capped with prong set rhinestone centers. These flowers are accented by more gold flowers and leaves as well as handwired white beads. And the rare turtle clasp is an absolute delight . The matching earrings are accented with filigreed leaves and a flower petal set with a rhinestone at its center.
On Cathy Gordon's website where she discusses Haskell clasps, she pictures and ponders the turtle and the dove. She lists a picture of a necklace with a turtle clasp, the only turtle she has EVER seen on a clasp (they are normally seen on stick pins, and then fairly rarely during the 1950's and 60's). Additionally, she features two rare dove clasps. One that we are used to seeing, which is 'correct', and one that is a completely different dove, which she asserts is either 'incorrect' or a prototype. Unless one can have a dialogue with someone who designed for the company, it is almost impossible to say. No archives, no patents during that period, very few advertisements.
Excellent condition, the necklace measures 16" in wearable length which includes the 3" extender.
This comes from an estate on the West Coast spanning several decades. She was a jewelry collector who was a great fan of designers such as De Mario, Miriam Haskell, Eisenberg, Hattie Carnegie, Kramer, Krementz, and Schreiner, Weiss, and many others. As her nephew indicated, she never married or had children and invested a great deal in high end designer jewelry which was her passion.
Numerous pieces are book pieces and many had matching pieces so many demi-parures are available. I acquired so much of this jewelry that I will be working on offering it in the store for years to come.
This would make a lovely addition to your jewelry collection or for dressing up a casual outfit, a special occasion or the holidays.
