Details

Sedum sarmentosum- Gold Moss StonecropCreeping, spreading, groundcover / mat-forming / low-growing
Looking for a drought tolerant, low-growing, low-maintenance ground cover? Start some Sedum Hispanicum seeds and grow these great ground cover plants! This Sedum plant has blue-green, succulent foliage, and it only reaches a few inches in height. As the weather warms, the foliage turns to a blue-grey color, and it has a soft feathery feel to it. In late spring to summer it has clusters of small whitish pink blooms. Sedum Stonecrop is a tough ground cover plant that tolerates some wear and tear such as light walking.
More About Gold Moss Sedum...
Gold Moss Sedum is a low-growing, fast-spreading, exceptionally drought-tolerant sedum that is perfect for use as a groundcover or as a lawn substitute. It's trailing stems form a low, dense carpet of attractive, succulent, light green foliage in the garden that becomes covered with yellow, star-shape flowers during spring and early summer.

Gold Moss is one of the toughest sedums and will spread quite rapidly to cover the ground in garden spaces. It's one of the few sedums/stonecrops that might be able to hold its own in a competition with ice plants for rapid groundcover on a droughty roadside and can even be used as a low-maintenance lawn substitute. It also makes a great soil cover in containers and will spill over the edges of pots. It is very attractive around boulders.

As with other sedums, Gold Moss likes full sun or just a little shade, in moist or dry well draining soil. It is not picky about soil type or condition. It grows on average four to six inches tall but can hump up higher, with virtually limitless spread.

As with most sedums, the leaves can be used as a substitute for sweet peppers either raw in salads or fried into relish. Their green-pepperiness keeps sedums from being browsed by deer or rabbits.

Gold Moss is one tough sedum!
This Sedum ground cover is commonly called Spanish Stonecrop, and although it is a sun lover in mild climates, this perennial prefers some afternoon shade in areas with extremely hot summers. Porous well-drained soil is essential. Plant Sedum Hispanicum Spanish Stonecrop in coarse sandy or gravelly soil in a rock garden, trough, wall, or container, or use it as a small-scale ground cover on a slope or bank. In too much shade it slowly dwindles or is overtaken by neighboring plants.
Sedum has tiny seeds which should be mixed with fine sand for an even sowing. Sow Sedum ground cover seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost is expected. Use small pots or flats and sterile starter mix. Pre-moisten the starter mix and sow Sedum seeds on the surface. Press the seed into the moistened soil, and do not it. Keep the Stonecrop seeds moist but not saturated until they germinate. Water from the underside of the pots or use a spray bottle and lightly mist the seeds. Plant the Sedum seedlings outdoors once sufficient growth has been made. Established plants can be divided every 3 - 4 years for best performancedevelopment.
