Bulb Size: Topsize 6/7 cm.
“Miniature iris bulbs, or dwarf Dutch iris (Iris reticulata), only grow up to 2 feet tall and produce small, iris-like flowers. Unlike other iris varieties, miniature iris doesn't grow from a rhizome but from a bulb. These small bulbs contain everything the plant needs to grow. The plants grow as perennials in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 5 through 10. Miniature iris requires minimal maintenance and blooms dependably from early to midsummer.”
Iris 'Dwarf Collection'
Collection comprises:
Iris danfordiae - Sunny yellow flowers up to 5cm (2") across.
Iris reticulata - Shades of lilac and purple with lightly scented flowers.
Iris harmony - Royal blue petals with a central yellow mark.

Culture
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Soil needs to stay relatively dry in summer in order for the bulbs to set buds for the following year. Plant bulbs 3-4” deep and space 3-4” apart in fall. Bulbs tend to separate into offsets or bulblets after bloom
(particularly when planted shallowly), with each new bulblet requiring several years to mature. Although bulbs can be dug and divided (offsets removed) after bloom, it is probably best to do this only if flowering has significantly declined. In order to insure consistent flowering from year to year, it is an option to plant supplemental bulbs each fall, or to grow this plant as an annual by planting new bulbs each fall.
Noteworthy Characteristics
This is a yellow-flowered reticulata iris. It is a low-growing bulbous iris that blooms in March to early April in the St. Louis area, at about the same time as snowdrops (Galanthus), glory-of-the-snow (Chionodoxa) and the early crocuses. Bright primrose-yellow, 2” diameter flowers with tiny brown or black spots on the falls appear on naked stems (scapes) growing 4” tall. Narrow, grass-like leaves elongate to 12” after bloom, but eventually disappear by late spring as the plants go dormant. Flowers have a sweet fragrance.
How to Grow Dwarf Iris Bulbs:
1. In the Fall, choose a spot that is mostly sunny or has only partial shade.

2. Planting Dwarf Iris bulbs is fairly simple. Bulbs look much like a small onion, with wiry roots growing out of one site and a spike on the other. Plant with the roots pointing down and the spike pointing up.

4. Follow the rule of thumb when planting bulbs and give the bulbs at least 2 times their height of soil above them. Dig a 3-4 inch hole, drop the bulb into it and cover with soil.

5. Regarding the spacing between bulbs, if planting in beds, leave approx 3 inches between each bulb. If you are planting in containers, you can cluster them a little closer together.

5. After planting, water well so that the soil above the bulbs settles.

6. Dwarf Iris bulbs will flower in the Spring. After the flowers die down, the plant can enjoy a warmer rest period. You don't have to water too much during this rest period. Leaves will also die back and at this point, you can choose to tidy up the plant and remove the old leaves or just let nature take its own course.
